mapping and data representation resources

Hello. Here are some resources for those of you who are thinking about how to create maps or information graphics:

1. Book: Mapping Graphic Navigational Systems
2. Visual Complexity site
3. via behance
http://behance.vo.llnwd.net/profiles/51170/projects/226098/511701242322826.jpg

4. Sarah Illenberger's photographic illustrations
5. Book: Data Flow: Visualising Information in Graphic Design
6. Books by Edward Tufte are good resources
7. Feltron
8. Nicholas Feltron's "social networking" creation, Daytum
9. Stefanie Posavec's work is about translating typography into form, rather than keeping it typographic, but still inspiring.
10. There are some really terrible looking tag clouds out there, we bet you can do better.
11. Dan Collier's hyperlink book

INSPIRATION

my sister actually sent me in this direction, which is odd because ... well, it just is, anyways, she showed me this website:
http://www.orkposters.com/sanfran.html

and it has these typographic "maps" of all the major cities. They are pretty cool you should check them out, they have some nice screen printed ones and they are decently priced.

as far as my project goes, i thought it was an interesting way to look at mapping and typography together and the opportunity it gives me to use this as a reference or jumping off point when i'm trying to modify and personalize a map that i'll be constructing.

PASSION IS TRUTH

This is the first stage of my poster. Screenprint of course. It's got alot of stuff going on even if the little red line tells me that alot is not a word. It's about a transformation against the most basic of human principles.

COLE'S PERSON/PLACE.

collecting details.

doing a person.

person is JT.

info seems to focus on marketing and production.

I've been working out the story for the Italian bakery, struggling a little bit, but also just doing some routine type experimentation in vector form only.

Begining of my Documentation

PERSON/PLACE

I'm still deciding on if I am making this person or place, but my concept can apply to both, so I have already begun to gather some documentations anyways. I chose San Francisco as a place because of its importance to my life for the past two years. How ever corny this sounds, I am in a long distance relationship and my boyfriend goes to school in SF. It has become a second home for me and also a place I hope to see myself in the future. I also started to think about the type of "conversation" that takes place between my boyfriend and I through trips, visits, exchanges of articles etc. I'll post a few images later tonight.

Nearly Final Typecast

I re printed my document on some colored paper and made a journal like book adding some end papers and a cover made from this really natural looking paper from France and is lined with another patterned paper also from France. The idea was to make the book look like a personal journal where one jots down thoughts or feelings.

I HEART LA

Newsflash....I have lived in LA previously and it was disastrous...this is not profound...my time here now has been actually somewhat profound...I'm going with this...

PROFOUND

Yeah, so anyways. I try to be truthful in all my projects....but this one is bugging me. I can't think of anything profound enough in my life to do a project. I haven't felt anything profound in a long ass time. Like 3 years....and the more i think of it...the stupider it sounds....so I'm going with DEATH. The death of my grandfather. Because it was so profound.

Typecast Revision

In class on Tuesday I revised my script by making it into a book. Originally I wanted the blank pages I have placed in between the lyrics to behave like leaves or something of that nature when he flipped through them and dropped them to the floor, but it made the script feel separate from the performance. To bring them together I decided that because the lyrics are essentially a ballad, I would make it into a book or a journal that looked personal that the performer will be reading this love ballad from. I only made a mock up book that he will be able to study for the pronunciation part of the performance, but I will replace that book with a more developed version of the same pacing. I plan to make and stitch bind the book

All is Love Final/Revision

I edited my physical script and sized down the content to 7x5 inches so that Fernando can have more freedom to move around. Also, I've changed some of my slides in my projection so that I can direct Fernando's movements.

AGAHI- Revision

So my word was Agahi which means you sometimes have to look again to find the answer cause it's staring you right in the face. I cleaned it up bit to make it more legible.

I Adore You / Process

Lost in a daydream of blue
And I feel so free
And then It's like I fall from the sky
Everything that I see is you
And you should know that I'm
Thinking about what you said
When you held my hand

Oh I adore you

Now we are older and
Things disappeared somehow
And I was thinking that maybe
We'd stand a better chance If we met today
I find myself talking to sharks
On my way to an island and still

I adore you
I adore you
